If you want to preserve the original color then i would avoid mink oil.

In this size i feel it is more difficult to put my feet in the blacksmith than it was in my iron ranger.
The biggest difference between the red wing beckman and the blacksmith is the type of leather used in the uppers.

The beckman imo fits slightly narrower that the ir.
The only thing i found on the blacksmith that might explain why they re seconds are some scuffs on the side and on the back of the boot.
They will primarily be worn as casual shoes but i live in a rural area and i do a lot of outdoorsy activies so they will find dirt fairly frequently.
The red wing blacksmith and iron ranger are just about the same in terms of sizing and fit.
I have to force a little to go in still easy enough as i don t even own shoe horns.
